‘I’ll be honest’: Pundit says he can’t understand why £42m player signed for West Ham…
West Ham United have had both successes and failures in their recent signings. Players like Lucas Paqueta, Mohammed Kudus, and Jarrod Bowen have been successful additions to the team. However, others like Gianluca Scamacca, Nikola Vlasic, and even Sebastien Haller have not lived up to expectations.
In the latest January transfer window, West Ham secured Kalvin Phillips on loan from Manchester City. However, his time at the club has been far from successful. Phillips has struggled to make an impact and hasn’t received the regular playing time he had hoped for.
Discussing Phillips’ move on the Premier League All Access Podcast, Scott Minto expressed confusion over the decision. He questioned why Phillips would choose West Ham, especially given the presence of other strong holding midfielders like Edson Alvarez and James Ward-Prowse. Minto acknowledged that David Moyes had shown interest in Phillips during his time at Leeds, but the move hasn’t panned out as expected.
In hindsight, the move seemed logical, with West Ham needing a replacement for Declan Rice and Moyes expressing interest in Phillips. However, things haven’t gone according to plan, and Phillips finds himself struggling for playing time behind other midfield options at West Ham.
Phillips may need to consider a new move in the summer to revive his career.
