Ravens’ Derrick Henry Shares Views on Running Backs Earning Big Contracts in Free Agency
Derrick Henry, formerly of the Tennessee Titans and now with the Baltimore Ravens, recently expressed his satisfaction seeing fellow running backs secure lucrative deals in NFL free agency. Henry, who signed a two-year, $16 million contract with the Ravens this offseason, discussed his perspective on player contracts with NFL insider Adam Schefter.
Henry revealed he wasn’t overly concerned about his own free agency, but rather pleased to witness other running backs receive what they believe they’re worth. He highlighted the significance of players advocating for fair compensation, noting the importance of recognizing the value of the running back position. Henry expressed happiness for Saquon Barkley and Josh Jacobs, who landed substantial contracts with the Philadelphia Eagles and the Green Bay Packers respectively.

Barkley’s three-year, $37.8 million deal, including $26 million guaranteed, and Jacobs’ four-year, $48 million contract ($12.5 million guaranteed), marked significant increases compared to last year’s contracts. Notable among those were Miles Sanders’ four-year, $25 million deal with the Carolina Panthers, with $13 million guaranteed, as well as deals for David Montgomery, Jamaal Williams, and Ezekiel Elliott.
Furthermore, D’Andre Swift, Tony Pollard, and Devin Singletary also secured multi-year contracts, reflecting a trend of rising compensation for running backs in free agency.
