Professional football physician, Dr. David Chao, shares insights on Kirk Cousins’ potential debut for the Atlanta Falcons in Week 1.
Dr. Chao, appearing on Bleav in Falcons, discusses the recovery timeline for Kirk Cousins, who recently joined the Falcons after leaving the Minnesota Vikings.
The Atlanta Falcons made headlines by securing Cousins with a lucrative four-year, $180 million contract. However, Cousins is recuperating from an Achilles tear sustained in Week 8 of the previous season.
Dr. Chao points out the significance of Cousins’ injury, particularly being a right Achilles tear affecting his push-off side for throwing downfield. Despite this, Dr. Chao notes that Cousins has ample time for recovery, emphasizing that he’s not under pressure to rush back to the previous season but rather focus on the upcoming one.
Comparing Cousins’ situation to Aaron Rodgers, who was aiming to return for a playoff push with the Jets, Dr. Chao suggests that Cousins has a more favorable timeframe for rehabilitation.
Based on the progress seen in Cousins’ rehab videos, Dr. Chao expresses confidence in Cousins being ready for OTAs (Organized Team Activities) and potentially the start of the season. While he acknowledges that Cousins may not be at 100% on the Achilles, he believes he’ll be sufficiently fit to execute game plans effectively.
