The Vikings confirmed a new contract with the Pro Bowl cornerback…

Pro Bowl cornerback Shaquill Griffin has secured a fresh deal with the Minnesota Vikings. Griffin, who began the 2023 NFL season with the Houston Texans before a stint with the Carolina Panthers, brings a wealth of experience from his time with the Seattle Seahawks and the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Griffin’s journey in the 2023 season saw him start strong with the Texans, showcasing impressive defensive performances in terms of limiting yards per reception to his side of the field, as reported by PFF. Despite this, Griffin’s departure from the Texans after their Week 12 defeat to the Jaguars surprised many, leading to his acquisition by the Carolina Panthers via waivers.

The Panthers’ decision to pick up Griffin was partly influenced by their need to bolster their cornerback options amid multiple injuries in the secondary. Additionally, it was a financially advantageous move for Carolina, as the Texans were obligated to pay $2.8 million in guaranteed money upon Griffin’s release, allowing the Panthers to secure his services at a significantly reduced cost.

During his brief stint with the Panthers, Griffin saw limited action, playing just 77 snaps and conceding three catches for 67 yards.

Griffin’s professional career commenced with the Seattle Seahawks, where he earned a reputation as a disruptive force, tallying 40 pass breakups over four seasons and earning a Pro Bowl selection in 2019. Following his tenure with the Seahawks, Griffin joined the Jacksonville Jaguars on a three-year deal, experiencing both success on the field and the challenges of a turbulent season under Urban Meyer.

In 2022, Griffin’s season was cut short due to injury, limiting him to just five games before being sidelined for the remainder of the campaign. Post-season, the Jaguars released Griffin as part of cost-saving measures, leading to his one-year, $3.5 million contract with the Houston Texans.
