Cincinnati Bengals standout receiver Tee Higgins expressed dissatisfaction with the team’s handling of his contract situation on March 15. Initially, there was hope that Higgins would continue with the Bengals after they applied the franchise tag.
However, this optimism dimmed when Higgins made a trade request earlier this week. Despite attempts to frame it positively, it’s evident that Higgins is unhappy with the lack of communication from the front office regarding a contract extension.

Higgins made his frustration public through a not-so-subtle Instagram story, featuring the song “Locked Up” by Akon, indicating his feelings about the franchise tag situation. This lack of engagement echoes past issues with the Bengals, notably during the 2017 NFL free agency, when Andrew Whitworth, a revered player, felt disrespected due to similar communication lapses.
While Higgins’ trade request may disappoint fans, many still hope he’ll remain in Cincinnati, recognizing his contributions to the team’s recent success. Despite his Instagram post being viewed as impulsive, Higgins’ talent and impact under coach Zac Taylor should be appreciated, even if he departs this offseason or in the future.
