Deshaun Watson, the quarterback for the Cleveland Browns, had a suspicion, or possibly some insider knowledge, that Tee Higgins, the wide receiver for the Cincinnati Bengals, was about to make a trade demand.
Higgins was franchise-tagged by the Cincinnati Reds on February 23 and asked to be traded out of the city.
“I was aware of it!” With a broad smile, Watson stated during his “QB Unplugged” show on Friday, March 15.
David Mulugheta is the agent that both Watson and Higgins use. Mulugheta appeared to have given Watson the inside word that Higgins would want to leave if he was given the franchise tag.
“I anticipated it. Watson stated, “I didn’t come out and say that, but I knew he wasn’t going to stay there if they franchise tagged him.” David and I get along really well. We discuss a wide range of topics.”
Before Higgins received the franchise tag, Watson openly hired him on his show in January.
“You’re aware of our problems, dude. I’m sure you’re ready to go. We intend to pass the ball a lot and want to do so,” Watson stated. “We’re going to look after you. We have ties to Clemson, and the Cleveland fans will adore you to the moon and back. Although we weren’t able to play together, now is our chance. Proceed to The Land now.
Browns Are Still Not Supposed to Sign Tee Higgins
For the upcoming season, Higgins’ franchise tag will be valued at $21.816 million. However, the former star player for Clemson is searching for some long-term stability. Higgins’ record with the Bengals is impressive. Over the course of four seasons, he has caught 257 passes for 3,684 yards and 24 touchdowns, with two seasons when he over 1,000 yards.
Although it seems improbable, Watson would relish having a weapon like Higgins in his pass-catcher armory. Recently, Jerry Jeudy of the Denver Broncos was acquired by the Browns via trade. It’s also doubtful that Higgins will be able to compel himself to leave Cincinnati.
“Now, if you’re Tee Higgins, you begin to wonder, ‘What’s my future here?'” Jordan Schultz of Bleacher Report stated on FS1’s Speak on March 11. “We are aware that Ja’Marr Chase must be paid. Joe Burrow was paid already. “Where do I fit in?” And that’s the source of that trade request. And the tag seems ok to me. He should play on the tag, in my opinion. He won’t be traded, in my opinion.
According to what I hear, getting him would require a two or possibly a three (second-round pick). Thus, if you’re from Tennessee or Carolina, those are the two states that suit me the best.
Deshaun Watson Thinks the Browns Could Win the Super Bowl
In free agency, the Browns didn’t make a big impression. But the squad did add Jeudy to the roster and brought back some important players like Za’Darius Smith. As he gets ready to get back on the field, Watson is pleased with those decisions.
“The parts are with us. All we need to do is assemble everything. Hell yeah, we have a shot to [win the Super Bowl] once we’re all healthy and have the chance to play together for the entire season. We have the fan base, the culture, the special teams, the offense, and the defense. Now all we have to do is go do it.
Watson underwent shoulder surgery in November that ended the season, but he will be prepared for training camp. As a member of the Browns, he has passed for 2,217 yards, 14 touchdowns, and 9 interceptions. After being acquired in a blockbuster trade in 2022, Watson has only made 12 appearances in games.
