Jerry Jeudy has found a new home with the Cleveland Browns and hopes to establish a lasting connection there.
The Browns officially confirmed the acquisition of Jeudy on Wednesday, March 13. In exchange for the former first-round pick, Cleveland traded fifth- and sixth-round picks to the Denver Broncos.
Approaching the final year of his rookie contract, Jeudy is set to earn a $12.987 million salary for 2024, guaranteed under his fifth-year option tender. Although uncertain about his future, Jeudy emphasizes his desire for stability and commitment.
“I want to be somewhere that wants me to be there. I want to be home,” Jeudy told reporters on Thursday, March 14. “I don’t want to be moving around too much and all that. So we’re going to see what happens.”
Speaking to reporters on Thursday, March 14, Jeudy stated, “I want to be somewhere that values having me around. I aim for stability and a sense of belonging. Moving around frequently isn’t my preference. Let’s wait and see what unfolds.”
Jeudy’s performance last season with the Broncos included 54 receptions out of 87 targets, tallying 758 yards and two touchdowns. His standout year was in 2022, where he amassed 67 catches for 972 yards and six touchdowns in 15 games.
Should Jeudy excel early on with the Browns, they are likely to explore incorporating him into their long-term plans. Meanwhile, the trade investment provides the Browns with a valuable addition to their passing game.
Addressing Previous Criticism
Jeudy faced public criticism last season from Steve Smith, a former All-Pro player, who labeled him as “Just A Guy” (JAG), implying an average performance unworthy of a first-round pick. Despite statistical underperformance, Jeudy appreciates the Browns for not letting Smith’s critique sway their judgment. He believes his on-field performance speaks for itself.
Jeudy’s Connection with Browns Pro Bowler Amari Cooper
As the Browns’ likely second receiver, Jeudy expresses excitement about playing alongside Amari Cooper, whom he admires and studied during his time at Alabama. Jeudy anticipates learning from Cooper’s experience and insights, which he believes will enhance his own skills.
Jeudy also shares familiarity with Elijah Moore, whom the Browns acquired last offseason. Additionally, the team boasts promising young receivers in David Bell and Cedric Tillman, both former third-round picks.
