A prominent free agent sheds light on his decision to turn down the Chicago Bears’ offer in favor of signing with an AFC team.
The Chicago Bears had shown interest in former Buffalo Bills wide receiver Gabe Davis, who ultimately opted to sign with the Jacksonville Jaguars.
The 24-year-old wide receiver made it clear that he opted to sign with the AFC team because of his keen passion for the team since childhood.
He said; “To be frank, the Jaguars are my kind of team.”
The Bears are actively seeking to enhance their offense during this offseason, particularly with the anticipated selection of USC quarterback Caleb Williams as the No. 1 overall pick.
In their initial moves in free agency, the Bears secured veteran running back D’Andre Swift to strengthen their backfield, but they still need to address the vacancy at the WR2 position following Darnell Mooney’s departure to the Atlanta Falcons.
According to Henry McKenna of FOX Sports, Gabe Davis received a competitive offer from the Bears but chose to join the Jacksonville Jaguars instead.
While it’s disappointing that Davis didn’t join the Bears, who could have benefited from his deep-threat abilities alongside No. 1 wide receiver D.J. Moore, it’s positive to see the Bears actively seeking upgrades for their receiving corps.
Chicago recognizes the importance of bolstering their passing game for success in the upcoming season, understanding the impact Moore had on their offense and quarterback Justin Fields last year.
Fortunately for the Bears, the free agent wide receiver market is moving slowly, leaving open the possibility of acquiring players like Curtis Samuel, Marquise Brown, Tyler Boyd, and others to address their needs.
