An assertion has been made regarding Ben Pearson’s future at Stoke City, reflecting concerns about his compatibility with Steven Schumacher’s management style.
Pearson, who initially joined Stoke last year and became a regular under Alex Neil, has seen limited game time since Schumacher took over, featuring in only nine matches and starting just three. His recent red card against Leeds United has intensified doubts about his continuity at the club.
Stoke’s fan pundit, Ben Rowley, acknowledges Pearson’s potential but doubts his suitability for Schumacher’s system, suggesting a departure in the summer is likely.
“I don’t think that Ben Pearson is Steven Schumacher’s type of midfield player,” Rowley told Football League World.
“Even Wouter Burger playing in the number six role at the moment, he’s very progressive in his play and much more mobile.
“I just don’t think Pearson fits that bill.
“Having said that, when he came on against Leeds in that second half, I thought he did really well.
“He applied the manager’s instructions to the letter, breaking up play and making some good chances.
“Other than getting himself a red card unnecessarily for two petulant fouls.
“It depends on whether Schumacher thinks he can trust him, and whether he thinks he can work Pearson into this Stoke team going forward.
“He has admitted recently that he is playing a little bit more conservatively than he’d like, so I do doubt his future here.
“I do think he will probably leave in the summer, but there is a good player in there, and if Schumacher can get the best out of him then that’s only to Stoke’s benefit.”
Stoke City currently faces relegation concerns in the Championship, and Pearson’s struggles on the field further highlight the team’s challenges. With Schumacher under pressure to keep the team afloat, Pearson’s uncertain fit within the squad raises questions about his long-term presence at the club.
