Florida Panthers defenseman Aaron Ekblad will be sidelined for approximately two weeks due to a lower-body injury, as confirmed by head coach Paul Maurice.
The 28-year-old player sustained the injury during a game against the Calgary Flames, colliding awkwardly with teammate Vladimir Tarasenko. Maurice indicated that Ekblad’s condition will be reassessed on a day-to-day basis towards the end of the two-week period, aiming for a return by late March or early April.
The Panthers will also be monitoring the status of forward Evan Rodrigues, who suffered an ankle injury during the same game. Despite Ekblad’s setback, the team remains in contention for the top spot in the Eastern Conference and the President’s Trophy, currently holding a one-point lead over the Boston Bruins.
This injury adds to Ekblad’s history of health challenges, including multiple injuries during last year’s playoffs and a recent absence due to another lower-body injury. In his 10-year career, Ekblad has played 671 games, accumulating 115 goals and 231 assists, with 14 points in 40 playoff appearances.
