Kirk Cousins has sealed his departure from the Minnesota Vikings, landing a significant contract with the Atlanta Falcons, marking a pivotal move on the opening day of free agency.
As confirmed by his agent, Mike McCartney, the 35-year-old quarterback has committed to the Falcons, ending his tenure with the Vikings.
Negotiations between Cousins and the Falcons began as soon as the NFL’s legal tampering period commenced at 11 a.m. CT on Monday. However, the formalization of the deal awaits the start of the 2024 league year at 3 p.m. CT on Wednesday.
Reportedly, Cousins’ new contract with the Falcons is valued at an impressive $180 million over four years, equating to $45 million per season. Notably, $90 million is guaranteed for the first two seasons, along with a hefty $50 million signing bonus.
Cousins’ decision takes him to Atlanta, where he and his wife Julie have familial ties, concluding his six-season journey with the Vikings. In his time with the team, he ranks third in games played (88), third in passing yards (23,265), first in yards per game (264.4), and second in passing touchdowns (171) in Minnesota franchise history.
