Swindon Town’s head coach, Gavin Gunning, expressed his disappointment following a disheartening 3-2 loss against Mansfield Town. Despite their efforts to equalize twice, Swindon left Field Mill empty-handed.
Mansfield seized an early lead within five minutes through Lucas Akins, capitalizing on a precise pass from Davis Keillor-Dunn. Although Swindon showed resilience, leveling the score with Paul Glatzel’s goal, Mansfield quickly responded with Keillor-Dunn’s powerful strike. Aaron Drinan’s header brought Swindon level again, but Mansfield clinched victory with Will Swan’s header from Ollie Clarke’s cross.
The defeat drops Swindon to 18th place in League Two, ending their three-game unbeaten streak. Conversely, Mansfield’s win solidifies their position at the top of the table.
Speaking to the media post-match, Gunning acknowledged defensive lapses as the root cause of their loss, labeling the conceded goals as a “horror show.” Despite positive aspects, Gunning lamented the defeat, emphasizing the frustration of conceding early goals and switching off defensively.
“It is a frustrating result, there are so many positives, but a defeat is a defeat.
“When you concede goals that are a horror show like that it is a frustrating afternoon,” the 33-year-old continued.
“We were chasing things after the opening five minutes. Once we grew into the game it was much of a muchness.
“The first five/ten minutes we were all over the place and then we grew into it and had our moments,” Gunning added.
“It is frustrating. It is tough to get the words out, we went toe-to-toe with one of the best teams in the league.
“We score and then switch off. We didn’t mark in the box, and we conceded, it’s simple.”
