Texans Make Final Call for the 30-year-old WR in Free Agency Ahead of Trade Deadline…

The Houston Texans have been busy revamping their roster, particularly in the passing offense, which saw an impressive rookie season from quarterback C.J. Stroud.

The emergence of receivers Nico Collins and Tank Dell has given Stroud the playmakers he needs to challenge NFL defenses. However, to reach the next level, the Texans must compete against top AFC teams where they lack a quarterbacking advantage. How will they improve their offense this offseason?

One significant free agent hitting the market is Tampa Bay Buccaneers receiver Mike Evans. After a decade of consistent production, Evans will explore all options for a new contract, including returning to Tampa. The Texans, with ample cap space and a desire to compete with the league’s best, seem like a potential destination for Evans.

However, sources suggest that Houston may not pursue Evans in free agency. They have confidence in their young receivers, Collins and Dell, who showed promise in 2023. Upgrading the receiving corps might involve a more modest addition, like Robert Woods, who could complement Collins and Dell’s skill sets without overshadowing them.

Another option for the Texans is to look to the NFL Draft for playmaking talent. This year’s receiver class is deep, and the Combine has highlighted the potential of these prospects. Even if they don’t select a receiver in the first round, there will be plenty of talent available later.

General manager Nick Caserio might consider that an Evans deal could become too costly, especially if teams like the Kansas City Chiefs and New York Jets enter a bidding war. Opting for a Day 2 receiver and focusing their cap space and first-round pick on defensive upgrades could help build a more balanced and competitive team.
