Steven Nelson Reveals Regret in Social Media Dispute with Nick Caserio…

After a social media argument with Nick Caserio, Steven Nelson admits his regret.

Cornerback Steven Nelson had dissatisfaction with Houston Texans general manager Nick Caserio prior to the 2023 season. Nelson was searching for a new deal when he posted several cryptic messages on social media, which included an apparent rip at Caserio following mandatory camp last June, where the 31-year-old defensive back appeared detached during practice. However, Nelson was able to sign an upgraded contract that raised his total maximum compensation to $6.5 million at the start of training camp last July.

He is eligible for an extension after seven months. As he begins his ninth season, Nelson seems to want to remain in Houston, given the success of the previous one. Nelson talked about the conflict on his brand-new podcast, “The Corner Suite,” and expressed sorrow for making his disapproval visible to the wider public on social media.

“What’s crazy is, I made a little joke about Nick’s vest, or wardrobe, whatever the case may be,” Nelson said. “I didn’t anticipate it becoming as popular as it did.” Plus, I didn’t even mention the guy’s name. That only serves to highlight social media’s influence. With millions of random individuals at your disposal, everything will blow up. You’ve got people with podcasts, and radio stations, they blew it up.”

Since joining the Texans as a free agent in 2022, Nelson has been one of Houston’s foundational pieces on defense. During the 2023 season, he helped the Texans win 10 games during the regular season. He finished the year with 63 tackles, 48 solo hits, and four interceptions. He had one of his best games during the Texans’ 45-14 Wild Card victory over the Cleveland Browns. Nelson posted four tackles, three pass breakups, and one pick-six in the win.
