Darko Rajaković: “Raptors are said to be nearing an extension with a pending free agent”…

The Toronto Raptors are reportedly on the verge of securing a contract extension with Kelly Olynyk, a Canadian center standing at 6-foot-11. According to Doug Smith of the Toronto Star, this multi-year extension is expected to be finalized in the coming weeks.

Olynyk was recently acquired by the Raptors, along with Ochai Agbaji, in a trade with the Utah Jazz. The deal involved Toronto’s 2024 first-round pick, Otto Porter Jr., and Kira Lewis Jr. The Raptors have made it clear that they value Olynyk as a veteran presence and a big man who can space the floor, which they believe will benefit their young core.

Raptors general manager Bobby Webster expressed excitement about Olynyk’s steady presence and his desire to remain with the team. Olynyk, who is currently in the final year of a three-year, $37.2 million contract, is set to become an unrestricted free agent this summer.

However, he has expressed interest in signing a long-term deal with Toronto. The 32-year-old is expected to sign a two-year contract, possibly with a third-year option. The Raptors are keen on finalizing the deal before the offseason to remove Olynyk’s $23.2 million cap hold, which could potentially free up some cap space if they decide to renounce the rights to Gary Trent Jr. and Bruce Brown.
