Phillies fans irate after the Brewers steal Rhys Hoskins’ bat spike moment…

Philadelphia Phillies fans are expressing their frustration and anger after the Milwaukee Brewers, who recently signed Rhys Hoskins as a free agent, released a video celebrating the acquisition. The video, shared on the Brewers’ social media channels, has sparked controversy and disappointment among the Phillies faithful.

The video opens with footage of Rhys Hoskins in a Phillies uniform hitting a memorable home run in Game 3 of the 2022 NLDS against the Atlanta Braves. However, the tone takes an uncomfortable turn as the Phillies uniform is digitally replaced by a Brewers uniform, just as Hoskins performs his trademark bat spike in celebration.

The cringe-worthy video did not sit well with Phillies fans, who took to social media to express their displeasure. One fan, identified as RMacs (@PhillyHotspur), went as far as labeling the Brewers as a “poverty franchise” for attempting to claim the iconic moment. Another user, Phillies Baseball Talk (@FightinsTalk), straightforwardly demanded that Milwaukee delete the video. PhillieDrone (@PhillieDrone) characterized the video as “absolutely disrespectful,” echoing the sentiments of many disgruntled fans.

The backlash on social media was substantial, with numerous fans expressing their frustration in less-than-polite terms. The incident has fueled animosity between Brewers and Phillies supporters, with tensions escalating in the wake of the controversial video.

Rhys Hoskins, seemingly unfazed by the uproar, addressed the issue during a media interview. NBC Sports Philadelphia shared a clip of the interview, during which Hoskins appeared amused by the creative efforts of social media users. He acknowledged the talents of individuals on social media but also acknowledged the potential for increased competition and rivalry between Brewers and Phillies fans due to the video.

Despite the fan backlash, Rhys Hoskins recently signed a two-year, $34 million contract with the Milwaukee Brewers on January 23. Phillies fans, disappointed by the departure of one of their star players, will have an opportunity to bid farewell when the Brewers visit Citizens Bank Park for a three-game series scheduled for June 3-5. The hope is that the focus during this series will be on the game itself, with the only bat spikes occurring from players donning Phillies uniforms.
