The Atlanta Falcons’ next head coach will be a familiar one.
The Atlanta Falcons have made a familiar choice for their next head coach, as reported by ESPN’s Adam Schefter. Raheem Morris, who spent the last three seasons as the defensive coordinator for the Los Angeles Rams, will step into the role, succeeding Arthur Smith, who was dismissed earlier this month.
Morris, aged 47, brings a wealth of experience with the Falcons, having coached for them from 2015 to 2020, contributing to their Super Bowl LI appearance in 2017. Initially serving as the wide receivers coach and pass game coordinator, he later took on the role of defensive coordinator in the 2020 season, including a stint as Atlanta’s interim coach following Dan Quinn’s midseason firing in 2020.
Morris’ impressive resume includes prior experience as a full-time head coach with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers from 2009 to 2011, as well as two Super Bowl rings—one as the Rams’ defensive coordinator in the 2021 season and another from his time as the defensive quality control coach for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2002.
Despite earlier considerations for former New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick, the Falcons ultimately decided to veer in a different direction, officially opting for Morris as their next head coach.
