During his tenure, he led Michigan to three consecutive Big Ten Championships, three College Football Playoff appearances, and a perfect 15-0 record in the 2023 season, resulting in the Wolverines being crowned the 2023 National Champions.
Dean Spanos, the Owner and Chairman of the Board, expressed excitement about having Harbaugh lead the Chargers, highlighting Harbaugh’s extensive coaching experience and successful track record. John Spanos, President of Football Operations, emphasized Harbaugh’s ability to build and lead successful teams, citing his impressive coaching achievements both in college and the NFL.
Harbaugh brings a winning culture with a remarkable coaching record, boasting a 144-52 record as a collegiate head coach and a 49-22-1 record as an NFL head coach. His achievements include leading the San Francisco 49ers to three consecutive NFC Championship Games and an appearance in Super Bowl XLVII in just four years. Known for spotting talent and developing players, Harbaugh coached numerous players to Pro Bowl selections and All-Pro honors.
