Canadiens set to remedy their center-depth problem with a recall of the 26-year-old star to practice…

Lucas Condotta recalled by the Canadiens…

After the Laval Rocket secured a 5-2 victory over Utica, albeit missing Arber Xhekaj, the Montreal Canadiens took swift action to address their center-depth issue by recalling a player from the AHL. The fortunate individual tapped for this opportunity is Lucas Condotta. Anticipate his presence at today’s practice session, slated for 10:30 a.m. at the Bell Center.

This move follows the Canadiens’ earlier decision to place Mitchell Stephens on waivers to accommodate Joshua Roy in the lineup, reducing their center options to just three. However, this experiment lasted merely one game, prompting speculation about the adequacy of the three-center configuration, Condotta’s potential, Roy’s performance, or potential dissatisfaction with Stephens.

Condotta’s promotion brings the total forwards in town to 13, but given his center position and the team’s likely desire to assess his capabilities, he is expected to anchor the fourth unit in the upcoming game. Questions linger regarding whether Michael Pezzetta or Jesse Ylönen will be benched to make room for Condotta.

Notably, Brandon Gignac was not an option for recall as he lacks an AHL contract. Philippe Maillet and Lias Andersson stood as realistic alternatives for the Canadiens, with waivers also considered but ultimately not pursued.

Condotta, an undrafted NHLer in his second full professional season, boasts 13 points from 37 games with the Rocket this season. In a recent development, he was shifted to the wing, but given his natural center position, it seems logical for him to receive an opportunity in the center role during the upcoming games.
