The second injury, a broken bone in his shoulder requiring surgery, forced him to sit out for the remainder of the season. The Browns, realizing the importance of a reliable backup, cycled through four quarterbacks—PJ Walker, Dorian Thompson-Robinson, Jeff Driskel, and Joe Flacco—during Watson’s absence.
General manager Andrew Berry emphasized the team’s commitment to maintaining a strong quarterback room, acknowledging the historical trend of investing in backup quarterbacks. Berry revealed plans to carry three quarterbacks in the upcoming season, highlighting the position’s significance within the roster.
While Watson is expected to be ready for the start of the season, and Thompson-Robinson returning for his second year, the Browns are actively considering their options for a third quarterback. Berry expressed openness to bringing back Joe Flacco, who served as Watson’s backup last season.
