Unfortunate Update: Recent Report Suggests Josh McDaniels Won’t Be Making a Comeback to the Patriots…
Despite spending time in the Patriots’ environment recently, it seems that Josh McDaniels’ presence doesn’t indicate a return to New England. Fired by the Las Vegas Raiders on October 31, McDaniels attended the Patriots’ season finale at Gillette Stadium on January 7 and was present at Bill Belichick’s exit press conference four days later. There were speculations about McDaniels potentially becoming the offensive coordinator if New England parted ways with Bill O’Brien, who left for Ohio State.
However, a report from NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport on Sunday suggested that McDaniels isn’t preparing for a return to Foxboro, Massachusetts. Rapoport hinted that it wouldn’t be surprising if McDaniels joined the coaching staff of the Atlanta Falcons, especially if Belichick takes on a role in Atlanta. The rapport between McDaniels and Belichick, built over nearly two decades of collaboration, suggests a preference for familiar faces in the next coaching venture. A recent Boston Sports Journal report even hinted that Patriots executives might consider leaving New England to maintain ties with Belichick.
Belichick, who completed his second interview with the Falcons on Friday, has a reportedly “wide open” coaching search. Although there is mutual interest, a new report indicates that the 71-year-old coach is undecided, being “50/50” on taking his coaching talents to Atlanta
