Falcons interview Rams’ Raheem Morris, Bills’ Joe Brady after 2nd meeting with Bill Belichick
The Atlanta Falcons are actively pursuing their next head coach, having recently conducted interviews with Los Angeles Rams’ defensive coordinator Raheem Morris and Buffalo Bills’ quarterbacks coach and interim offensive coordinator Joe Brady. These virtual interviews took place following a second meeting with former New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick, who is reportedly a top choice for the Falcons.
Raheem Morris, a familiar face to the Falcons, previously served in various roles with Atlanta from 2015 to 2020, including an interim head coach stint for the final 11 games of the 2020 season. During his tenure with the Rams, where he spent three seasons as defensive coordinator, Morris has displayed his versatility, having previously been the head coach for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers from 2009 to 2011. His connection with Atlanta, coupled with his experience, makes him a strong candidate for the head coaching position.
Joe Brady, the Bills’ quarterbacks coach since 2022, took on the role of interim offensive coordinator during the 2023 season. Prior to his time in Buffalo, Brady served as the offensive coordinator for the Carolina Panthers from 2020 to 2021 and held offensive assistant positions at Louisiana State in 2019 and with the New Orleans Saints in 2017-18. His diverse experience in offensive coaching positions has garnered attention, making him a potential candidate to lead the Falcons.
The Falcons’ coaching search has been extensive, having already interviewed 11 candidates. The second meeting with Bill Belichick, who boasts an illustrious coaching career with six Super Bowl titles, suggests he is a frontrunner for the position. However, Belichick is coming off a challenging 4-13 season, the worst of his career, which led to his departure from the Patriots.
The interviews with Morris and Brady come amid the Falcons’ struggles in finding a stable quarterback situation after the departure of long-time quarterback Matt Ryan. With Belichick’s discussions likely addressing the Patriots’ quarterback challenges, the Falcons face similar concerns in establishing a consistent and effective quarterback solution for the future.
The Falcons have also explored various other coaching options, including interviews with Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh, Baltimore Ravens defensive coordinator Mike Macdonald, Cincinnati Bengals offensive coordinator Brian Callahan, San Francisco 49ers defensive coordinator Steve Wilks, Carolina Panthers defensive coordinator Ejiro Evero, Ravens assistant head coach and defensive line coach Anthony Weaver, and Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator Brian Johnson. As they navigate through a competitive field of candidates, the Falcons aim to secure a coach who can guide them towards a more successful future, overcoming recent seasons of struggle and inconsistency.
