LATEST: Rams Veteran Delivers Impactful Message to Teammates…
As the curtains close on the Los Angeles Rams’ 2023 season, it concludes with a sense of pride despite falling short of securing another Lombardi Trophy. Despite starting the season at 3-6 and fielding one of the youngest teams in the league, the Rams showcased resilience, finishing the regular season with seven wins in their final eight games to clinch a playoff spot—an accomplishment few had anticipated at the season’s outset. While their playoff run ended quickly, with a narrow loss to the Detroit Lions in the Wild Card Round, the Rams left an indelible mark in the postseason.
Rob Havenstein, an offensive tackle and one of the Rams’ longest-tenured players, addressed reporters on Tuesday, delivering a poignant message to his younger teammates. He emphasized the significance of recognizing the effort required to reach this level of competition. Havenstein stressed that success early in a player’s career, such as making the playoffs in their rookie year, might create a perception that the journey is easier than it truly is. He commended the team’s hard work during the season but cautioned against underestimating the challenges that lie ahead, citing the rarity of playoff opportunities in the careers of many NFL players.
The Rams’ outstanding rookie class, led by standout receiver Puka Nacua, played a crucial role in their season. Nacua garnered attention by setting NFL records with 105 receptions and 1,486 yards in his debut season. Additionally, the Rams discovered defensive talents in Kobie Turner and Byron Young, along with a reliable offensive lineman in Steve Avila. The future of the team, once uncertain, now appears promising.
However, Havenstein, cognizant of the pitfalls of complacency, issued a warning to the younger Rams, urging them to guard against it at all costs. He acknowledged that each NFL season brings changes in personnel and coaching staff, requiring adaptation. Yet he emphasized the importance of gaining positive experience, crediting head coach Sean McVay for fostering a culture focused on improvement, teamwork, and maintaining a positive environment throughout the year.
