OFFICIAL: Atlanta Falcons Enhance YAC Capability with Signing of CFL All-Star Austin Mack…
The Atlanta Falcons have officially addressed a glaring need by securing the services of CFL All-Star Austin Mack. As it stands, the Falcons’ depth chart features only one signed receiver for the upcoming season—Drake London. The statuses of Mack Hollins, Scotty Miller, Khadarel Hodge, and Van Jefferson, all listed as pending unrestricted free agents, hang in the balance. Although Josh Ali is under contract for the next season, his recent stint on the injured reserve raises questions about his availability.
Mack emerged as one of the most impactful offensive players during his inaugural CFL season. His impressive regular-season performance included 78 receptions for 1,154 yards and 4 touchdowns, making him the holder of the fifth-highest receiving yards in the CFL. Notably, Mack showcased a formidable YAC (Yards After Catch) ability, amassing 423 yards after the catch, ranking him fourth in the league.
The CFL postseason further solidified Mack’s prowess, with the wide receiver securing the second-highest yards, making 13 catches for 185 yards and 2 touchdowns. His stellar contribution culminated in a standout performance during Montreal’s Grey Cup victory over the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, where Mack hauled in 6 catches for 103 yards and a touchdown. Notably, he made a spectacular one-handed catch for a 33-yard gain during the Grey Cup, even while facing interference.
Austin Mack is no stranger to NFL systems, having been signed by the New York Giants as an undrafted free agent in 2020. His stint with the Giants saw him appear in 11 games, recording 7 catches for 91 yards. Subsequently, Mack spent time on the practice squads of the Titans and 49ers in 2021 and 2022, showcasing his versatility.
During his college tenure with Ohio State, Mack accumulated 79 receptions for 1,050 yards and 6 touchdowns. His senior season in 2019 saw him contribute with 27 receptions for 361 yards and 3 touchdowns.
