The Green Bay Packers’ defensive concerns have deepened as star cornerback Jaire Alexander suffered another injury during a jog-through, rolling his ankle after stepping on a teammate’s foot. This development puts his participation in doubt for the upcoming wild-card weekend clash against the Dallas Cowboys, intensifying questions about the Packers’ defensive capabilities against the formidable Cowboys.
Packers head coach Matt LaFleur addressed the unexpected incident, describing it as a “freak deal” during a mostly casual jog-through practice session. Despite Alexander’s commitment to making himself available, LaFleur deemed his status day-to-day and opted to rest him for the day. This marks the third injury for Alexander this season, with previous setbacks causing him to miss a total of nine games. His earlier injuries include a back injury resulting from a collision with practice squad quarterback Alex McGough and a shoulder injury sustained on November 5 against the Los Angeles Rams.
Reporters observed that, despite the ankle injury, Alexander did not display any visible issues or wear a protective boot. LaFleur acknowledged the rarity of such injuries occurring during half-speed practices, emphasizing the unexpected nature of the incident. The coach emphasized that Alexander was fully focused and engaged in the practice, making the injury an unfortunate outcome of an accidental step on a teammate’s foot.
