Ramsey and QPR staunchly deny any wrongdoing, emphasizing that the legal case is unrelated to Ramsey’s recent departure from the club. The lawsuit filed by Amrit Bansal-McNulty against QPR is part of a broader claim for damages, primarily stemming from his troubling experiences at Crawley, where he alleges enduring racial abuse from manager John Yems.

Crawley took action by suspending Yems after several squad members made allegations of racist behavior in April 2022. This subsequently led to Yems being charged by the FA for employing discriminatory language. While Yems denied most charges, the FA disciplinary commission upheld 11 out of 15, resulting in a record-setting three-year ban for discrimination in English football following an appeal.

Among the charges upheld, Yems referred to Bansal-McNulty as a ‘curry muncher,’ questioning his dissatisfaction with sponsor-provided pizzas lacking ‘curry pizza.’ In the legal proceedings, Bansal-McNulty directs his case against QPR rather than Ramsey, with preliminary hearings occurring in November. The full hearing is scheduled for the summer of 2025.

Bansal-McNulty, 23, reportedly called Ramsey in April 2022 to express concerns about the ‘racist banter’ at Crawley, seeking assistance that, according to him, went unanswered. Allegedly, Ramsey, while expressing sympathy, downplayed the issue, indicating that such behavior was commonplace in League Two and suggesting Bansal-McNulty would have to handle it himself.

Surprisingly, the former Northern Ireland Under-21 international, with a history of advocating against racism and promoting diversity, found Ramsey’s response lacking. Mail Sport initially reported Yems’ use of racist language in April 2022, leading to his suspension and departure from Crawley.

Ramsey, on the same day, contacted Bansal-McNulty, who claims Ramsey was more focused on determining if he had leaked the story, using intimidating questioning techniques. Ramsey also reminded Bansal-McNulty that his contract was due to expire in two months, and subsequently, the player’s deal was not renewed, marking the end of his professional playing career.
