After more than nine years with Queens Park Rangers (QPR), Chris Ramsey, MBE, bids farewell as the Technical Director and Head of Coaching. This departure follows a comprehensive review of the club’s Academy structure, as explained by Chairman and CEO Lee Hoos.
Hoos emphasizes that the decision stems from the club’s efforts to “thoroughly rationalize everything we do” and characterizes the discussions with Ramsey as “very amicable,” stating that it is “in the best interests of all parties.”
Ramsey, who initially joined QPR in November 2014 as Head of Player Development, has been a significant figure in the club’s journey. He took charge of the first team between February and November 2015 and later assumed the role of Technical Director in 2016, adding the position of Head of Coaching in 2018. Reflecting on his time at QPR, Ramsey expresses gratitude, saying, “I have had a really good nine years at the club and have nothing but good things to say about my time at QPR.”
Lee Hoos acknowledges Ramsey’s contributions, highlighting his role in developing the club’s Academy and praising him as both a professional and a person.
Hoos underlines that while parting ways is a strategic decision, Ramsey will always be considered a friend of the club. Ramsey echoes this sentiment, expressing excitement about the next chapter in his career.
Having experienced various roles in football over 45 seasons, Ramsey’s departure marks a significant change for QPR.
His involvement in managing the Premier League team and nurturing Academy players who later featured in the first team has left a lasting impact. Despite the transition, the club recognizes Ramsey’s hard work, dedication, and guidance, thanking him for his invaluable contributions.
Ramsey’s coaching journey began after a two-decade playing career, leading him to work with various England age groups and eventually joining Tottenham, where he served as Head of Player Development and first-team coach for a decade before joining QPR in 2014.
As QPR undergoes substantial changes behind the scenes, including Les Ferdinand stepping down as Director of Football and the opening of a new training ground in Heston after an 11-year saga, the departure of Chris Ramsey marks another chapter in the club’s evolution.
Colleagues and mentees, such as Manisha Tailor MBE and Justin Cochrane, express gratitude for Ramsey’s influence on their coaching careers, depicting him as a mentor, friend, and significant contributor to their development.
In parting ways with QPR, Chris Ramsey leaves a legacy of dedication and mentorship, shaping the club’s future while embarking on the next phase of his distinguished career.
