Portsmouth manager John Mousinho has dismissed social media rumors linking Bradford striker Jake Young to a January move to Fratton Park. Despite reports on social media platforms, Mousinho expressed contentment with the current striking options at Pompey, including Colby Bishop, Christian Saydee, and Kusini Yengi.
Jake Young, who scored 16 League Two goals during his loan spell at Swindon, has returned to Bradford after being recalled by his parent club. Speculation arose on platforms such as X (formerly Twitter), suggesting a potential permanent move to Portsmouth this month. However, Mousinho chose not to fuel the speculation and instead emphasized the existing talent within the team’s central attacking role.
When questioned about the rumor by BBC Solent, Mousinho stated, “I think as long as Jake is contracted to another club, we won’t comment on that. But as far as we’re concerned, in the centre-forward department, we’re really happy where we are.”
Young’s impressive 16 league goals make him the second-highest goalscorer in League Two, trailing behind Notts County’s Macauley Langstaff, who has 19 goals. Colby Bishop, who recently scored the winning goal against Stevenage on New Year’s Day, ranks as one of League One’s top scorers, securing 13 goals from 23 appearances.
Kusini Yengi, currently on international duty with Australia, has contributed seven goals from 17 appearances, while Christian Saydee, with two goals from 27 appearances, offers additional depth. Mousinho also noted that Abu Kamara, capable of playing as a forward, is often preferred on the wings. Kamara has delivered six goals and three assists in all competitions so far.
In conclusion, Mousinho’s response to the social media rumors surrounding Jake Young’s potential move to Portsmouth emphasized the team’s satisfaction with their existing options in the central attacking role and downplayed any speculation regarding new additions in the January transfer window.
