Despite expressing love for the team, Cowherd incorrectly asserted that the Texans, with a rookie head coach and quarterback, had already secured a playoff berth, citing the last instance of this occurring in 2012 with Chuck Pagano and Andrew Luck of the Colts. In reality, the Texans are still vying for a playoff spot and must win their upcoming game against the Indianapolis Colts to secure it.

Cowherd’s misinformation extended to player assessments as well. He praised C.J. Stroud, referring to him as a seasoned quarterback with a flawless record of four games and no turnovers, while highlighting the team’s offensive weapons like Tank Dell, Dalton Schultz, and Nico Collins. However, Dell, an impressive rookie performer, has been sidelined since Week 13 due to a broken fibula, undermining the accuracy of Cowherd’s commentary.
This incident is not the first time Cowherd has demonstrated a lack of accurate information in his NFL analyses. In November, he inaccurately declared the Chicago Bears out of contention for the No. 1 overall pick, a position they eventually secured through a trade. Additionally, last August, Cowherd made a misguided statement about Dwayne Haskins, asserting that the late quarterback could not win a Super Bowl more than a year after Haskins tragically passed away.
While not as severe as some of his previous errors, Cowherd’s recent take on the Texans further highlights the need for fact-checking and accuracy in sports commentary. As the Texans approach a crucial Week 18 matchup, Cowherd’s misinformation serves as a reminder of the importance of reliable information in the realm of sports analysis.
