Manchester United forward Amad has dismissed reports linking him to the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament this month. The former Sunderland player, recovering from a preseason knee injury, recently made a comeback off the bench in a 2-1 defeat to Nottingham Forest. Contrary to a Sky Sports graphic indicating his participation in AFCON, Amad refuted the claim on Twitter, asserting, ‘Not true.’
Amad, who impressed during a loan spell at Sunderland last season with 14 goals in 39 Championship appearances, has been under scrutiny from clubs like Southampton and Ipswich for a potential January loan move. Sunderland had been monitoring his situation throughout the summer. The 21-year-old’s decision not to join Ivory Coast’s squad for AFCON clarifies his current commitment amid ongoing transfer speculations.
As Amad continues his recovery, the prospect of increased opportunities within Manchester United’s first team emerges, especially with the anticipated departure of Jadon Sancho from Old Trafford this month. The clarification surrounding Amad’s AFCON participation adds certainty to his immediate future amidst reported interest from various clubs.
