DeMeco Ryans: ‘Just Play Clean!’
Houston Texans head coach DeMeco Ryans is undeterred by the spotlight of a primetime slot on Saturday, maintaining a singular focus on securing a playoff berth as his team faces the Indianapolis Colts.
As the Texans gear up for a crucial matchup with playoff implications, Ryans expressed the team’s excitement about the opportunity to clinch a postseason spot. Regardless of the primetime setting, the primary goal for Ryans is to play high-quality football, sticking to their distinctive style and executing with precision.
The upcoming game holds particular significance as it marks a rematch between the Texans and the Colts, division rivals who last faced each other in Week 2, resulting in a 31-20 victory for Indianapolis. Since that encounter, both franchises have undergone significant transformations, rebounding from disappointing campaigns in 2022 to contend for a spot in the playoffs this season.
Ryans emphasized the evolution of both teams, considering the first game a distant memory and viewing the upcoming matchup as a fresh start for both squads. With changes in personnel and strategies, the head coach downplayed the weight of their initial meeting, focusing on the present and the opportunity to rewrite their narrative.
“We’re a completely different team; they’re a completely different team,” Ryans said. “For me, it’s all a fresh start. For us, I don’t really put much weight on the first game of the year. I start watching, and I’m like, ‘Man, who is this team?’ It seems like that was so long ago; playing that second game was a fresh start for both teams. I think they have different players in; we have different players in. It’ll be a fresh start.”
The game between the Colts and Texans is scheduled for 7:15 p.m. CT on Saturday and will be broadcast on ESPN, providing fans with an exciting showdown with playoff implications.
