Stoke City boss expressed optimism and spelled out a wish as the 20-year-old star could be out of the squad for over a month…

Stoke City’s right-back, Junior Tchamadeu, is set to join the Cameroon squad for the African Cup of Nations, prompting his manager, Steven Schumacher, to express hopes that the experience will contribute to Tchamadeu’s development. The 20-year-old player, acquired by Stoke on deadline day, has recently gained prominence, starting a game under caretaker Paul Gallagher and making notable contributions in subsequent matches.

Schumacher acknowledged Tchamadeu’s potential, particularly his powerful runs down the right, and emphasized the desire for the young right-back to maintain his positive momentum during this new adventure with the Cameroon squad. Expressing optimism, Schumacher wished for Tchamadeu to secure playing time and valuable experiences during the tournament.

Stoke City signed Junior Tchamadeu from Colchester United at the end of the summer transfer window.

With Cameroon’s campaign beginning on January 15 against Guinea and group-stage matches scheduled against Senegal (Jan 19) and Gambia (Jan 23), Tchamadeu is expected to miss at least two Championship matches (Rotherham and Birmingham) and an FA Cup clash against Brighton. The competition concludes on February 11, potentially extending Tchamadeu’s absence to three additional matches if Cameroon advances further.

Schumacher stressed the importance of Tchamadeu returning safely after the tournament and expressed the hope that his experience in the African Cup of Nations will contribute positively to his rhythm and overall development.
