He could finally get his move.
Ipswich Town have received a significant boost as they make their initial move to secure the services of a Leicester City player in the upcoming January transfer window. Leicester City, currently leading the Championship by six points over second-placed Ipswich Town and maintaining an 11-point advantage over Southampton in third place, is on a smooth path to secure an immediate return to the Premier League under the guidance of Enzo Maresca.
Despite the summer departures of key players James Maddison and Harvey Barnes, Maresca has orchestrated an outstanding Championship campaign, positioning the Foxes to clinch the title in England’s second tier. As the January transfer window approaches, Maresca has the opportunity to enhance his title-winning squad further, potentially leading to the departure of certain players. One such player in consideration for an exit is Dennis Praet, a somewhat forgotten figure who came close to securing a move during the summer window.
Maresca recently addressed the January transfer window, stating, “In this moment, I don’t want them to think about January, even if they are probably already thinking about it, some of them, because it’s normal. We’ll see in January if some of them are coming to ask to leave; we’ll see how we can find solutions for them and also for us.” The manager affirmed that the club is clear about its needs in the January market and will assess the situation accordingly.
Reports from Italy, as relayed by Sport Witness, suggest that Torino has expressed interest in signing Dennis Praet. The midfielder has found limited playing time under Maresca’s management at Leicester, prompting Torino manager Ivan Juric to revive his pursuit of the player. Praet’s contract is set to expire next summer, leaving room for speculation about whether Torino will pursue a permanent deal or a loan arrangement when the transfer window opens next month.
Dennis Praet, once considered a player with the potential to elevate Leicester, has experienced a stagnation in his career at The King Power. Struggling to secure a place in Maresca’s squad, Praet’s statistics underscore his challenges. He has started just one league game and featured in the squad for only six games, making substitute appearances in five of them. Praet’s sole start in the current campaign occurred in the EFL Cup during a 2-0 victory over Burton Albion. The midfielder’s decline contrasts sharply with the initial praise he received from former manager Brendan Rodgers upon signing.
Rodgers had lauded Praet as an “outstanding player who fits the profile of the player we want,” expressing the need for an attacking midfield player like him. Praet’s potential move to Torino could represent a fresh start for the Belgian midfielder, given his limited opportunities and the approaching expiration of his contract at Leicester.
