QPR loanee suffers a season-ending injury on loan with the EFL side.
Swindon Town’s on-loan goalkeeper, Murphy Mahoney from QPR, is likely to miss the rest of the season due to a significant hamstring injury. The 22-year-old shot-stopper has been a key figure for Swindon Town, making 25 appearances in various competitions during the current campaign.
Swindon Town manager Michael Flynn expressed concern about the severity of Mahoney’s hamstring injury, suggesting it could be a high-grade two to grade three strain. Flynn’s experience with such injuries led him to believe that Mahoney’s season-ending injury was a possibility.
Mahoney joined QPR in 2012 and has progressed through the ranks, gaining valuable experience at various youth levels. QPR loaned him to Swindon Town in June to provide him with more playing time and exposure. The goalkeeper has been a regular starter for Swindon Town, contributing significantly until his unfortunate injury.
Despite Mahoney’s loan deal lasting the entire season, Swindon Town will now need to explore alternative goalkeeping options in the January transfer window. This unexpected development leaves the League Two side with the task of finding a suitable replacement to secure their goalkeeping department for the second half of the season.
Mahoney’s contract with QPR expires next summer, and the injury raises questions about his future with the Championship side. The decision to extend his contract may depend on QPR’s league status and Mahoney’s recovery progress. For now, Mahoney’s focus will be on rehabilitation and returning to full fitness.
