Browns HC responds to burning questions for the Browns ahead of their Thursday night football matchup against the Jets…

Cleveland Browns Head Coach Kevin Stefanski addressed key concerns ahead of the team’s Thursday night football matchup against the New York Jets, shedding light on pivotal aspects of the game. As the Browns prepare for their final regular-season home game at Cleveland Browns Stadium, Stefanski delved into three crucial questions that could shape the outcome of the game.

The first question revolves around the offensive strategy, specifically the balance between running and passing. The Browns’ offense, led by Stefanski, faces a Jets defense highly proficient in limiting passing yards and touchdowns. However, the Jets’ vulnerability lies in their run defense, ranking 23rd in rushing yards allowed and conceding 13 rushing touchdowns this season. Stefanski acknowledged the team’s recent emphasis on passing, attributing it to challenging matchups against stout run-stopping defenses. With the upcoming game against the Jets, who excel at preventing catches but struggle to stop the run, Stefanski expressed the team’s commitment to exploring diverse offensive approaches. He highlighted the coaching staff’s efforts to find innovative ways to score, acknowledging the difficulties presented by red zone situations and the need for adaptability in offensive formations.

The second major concern for the Browns is the condition of their special teams. Notably, kicker Dustin Hopkins will be sidelined due to a hamstring injury sustained in the previous game against the Texans. Hopkins was on the verge of tying Jim Brown for the Browns’ all-time points leader. In his absence, the team signed kicker Riley Patterson to the practice squad. Patterson boasts a successful track record, having made 58 of 66 field goal attempts and 87 of 90 PATs. Additionally, punter Corey Bojorquez, who is dealing with a quad injury, is doubtful for Thursday’s game. Bojorquez suffered the injury while taking over kickoff duties from Hopkins in the previous match. To address this, the Browns signed punter Matt Haack as a potential replacement for Bojorquez, underscoring the team’s commitment to maintaining a competitive special teams unit.

Burning qs

The third and final question centers on the Browns’ defense and its performance at home. The team has exhibited a formidable home defense throughout the season, allowing the fewest points and boasting a remarkable 28.2 percent success rate in stopping third-down attempts. With 30 sacks recorded at home, the Browns’ defense is tied for the highest in the league. The upcoming challenge lies in containing a struggling Jets offense, which ranks at the bottom in total net yards, passing yards, and rushing yards.

The Jets have faced offensive struggles, with only one shutout but scoring under 11 points on six occasions. The Browns’ defense, having shut out the Cardinals earlier in the season, aims to replicate its dominance in front of the home crowd for the last time this year. Cornerback Greg Newsome II emphasized the importance of the fans, dubbing them the team’s twelfth man, citing their disruptive impact on opposing offenses and the energy they provide.
