The hits just keep coming for the Vikings.
Christmas Eve wasn’t particularly great for the Minnesota Vikings as they fell to the Detroit Lions, 30-24, at U.S. Bank Stadium. Now, the team has gotten even worse news concerning a player that had been putting together his best season with free agency on the horizon.
According to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, D.J. Wonnum suffered a partially torn quad muscle, an injury that will likely end his 2023 season.
The injury was a non-contact injury that Wonnum suffered as he was trying to rush the passer in yesterday’s game. He attempted to make a move and then just went to the ground in obvious pain. He wound up getting carted off of the field to the locker room because of the injury.

Wonnum is in the final season of his rookie contract with the Vikings, and had registered 62 tackles and eight sacks on the season. He should almost certainly be ready to go by the time offseason activities get underway, but there’s also a good chance that he’s played his last snap in purple depending on what the free agency market looks like.
Here’s hoping for a speedy recovery for D.J. Wonnum, and here’s also hoping that he can potentially find his way back to Minnesota next season.
