Wolves’ Victory Marred by Graphic Injury: Gary O’Neil sent a 14-word message as he apologized for what he said of Craig Dawson’s knee gash injury…

Gary O’Neil: ‘Sorry if I’m too graphic for the viewers, but a gash across the knee.’…

Gary O’Neil expressed regret for his candid description of Craig Dawson’s injury, a ‘graphic’ gash on his knee, during Wolves’ 2-1 victory over Chelsea. The seasoned defender had to leave the field in the second half of the Molineux clash, making way for Hugo Bueno in the 70th minute. While Wolves celebrated an impressive win with goals from Mario Lemina and Matt Doherty, Dawson’s injury cast a shadow over the triumph.

Providing insights into Dawson’s condition, O’Neil assured that the injury, though appearing severe, was not serious. The Wolves boss explained to Sky Sports that Dawson suffered a ‘really deep cut across the patella,’ describing it as a ‘tricky one.’ Despite the unsettling visual impact of the injury, O’Neil received information from the medical team that Dawson would recover without complications. He anticipated Dawson’s availability for the upcoming match against Brentford, emphasizing the necessity of taking precautionary measures due to the location of the deep cut on the knee.

Apologizing for the graphic details shared with viewers, O’Neil highlighted the significance of the injury, describing it as a ‘gash across the knee.’ The injury notwithstanding, Wolves’ ascent to 11th place in the table following the victory was a cause for celebration. The team now shares points with Chelsea and is only behind them on goal difference, a fact that brought joy to O’Neil on Christmas Eve.

Reflecting on the team’s performance, O’Neil praised the collective effort and resilience displayed by his players, emphasizing their unity and commitment to securing a comfortable win. Despite facing challenges, including a recent 3-0 defeat to West Ham and key players dealing with health issues, O’Neil commended the team’s response.

He acknowledged the difficulties the squad faced, such as the unavailability of Jean Bellegarde and Dawson not being at full strength due to a virus. O’Neil had to call up young players on short notice, underscoring the team’s small size. However, he expressed confidence in the squad’s potential to cause problems for Chelsea, especially with the support of the fans. Despite some turnovers in the first half, O’Neil praised the team’s overall performance and looked forward to enjoying Christmas Day after the significant victory.
