Texas Scores Big: Four-Star WR Aaron Butler Chooses Longhorns Over Arizona and Washington…

A late offer from Chris Jackson put the Longhorns over the top for the blue-chip pass catcher.

In a late signing move, the Texas Longhorns secured the commitment of highly-rated wide receiver Aaron Butler, finalizing their recruiting efforts for the early signing period. Coach Steve Sarkisian had expressed interest in adding another wide receiver during the Early Signing Day press conference.

Originally considered a recruit from the West Coast, hailing from Calabasas, Calif., Butler had official visits with the Arizona Wildcats, Colorado Buffaloes, and the Georgia Bulldogs before the signing period. Despite not hosting Butler for a visit in Austin, the Longhorns, led by wide receivers coach Chris Jackson, extended an official offer on the second day of the signing period, placing themselves in contention for his services.

Butler’s finalists included the Wildcats, the Washington Huskies, and the Longhorns. Arizona hosted his final official visit, while Washington had him on campus for the regular-season finale against Washington State. The versatile 6’0, 170-pound receiver, known for his track speed, top-tier ball skills, and defensive prowess, adds depth and value to Jackson’s wide receiver unit.

Initially committed to the USC Trojans for cornerback duties and later pledged to Deion Sanders and the Colorado Buffaloes, Butler brings a diverse skill set to the Longhorns. Ranked as the No. 122 player nationally and the No. 21 wide receiver in the 247Sports Composite rankings, Butler joins Houston transfer Matthew Golden and three other high school signees in Jackson’s wide receiver class.

Texas’ overall recruiting class, currently ranked No. 3 nationally, features 23 signees along with two transfers. As the Longhorns aim to strengthen their wide receiver group, Butler’s addition enhances the team’s prospects for the upcoming season.
