Since taking charge at the end of October, Cifuentes has emphasized his commitment to working with the existing player pool but has not dismissed the prospect of new signings in the coming month. Acknowledging the financial constraints imposed by the Fair Play rules, he indicated that internal discussions are in progress to navigate the complexities of the transfer market.
“We are in internal conversations with the club about how we need to approach this process,” Cifuentes stated. “We have constant communication regarding how we can improve the team and the squad, but right now it is not the main focus when we have such an important period in front of us.”
Expressing alignment with the club’s stance on financial considerations, Cifuentes emphasized the need for a strategic and calm approach to maximize the potential of the current squad. Despite potential interest in QPR’s players, he acknowledged that the transfer market dynamics can change swiftly.
QPR stands out as the sole Championship club to abstain from borrowing players on loan this season. Cifuentes, however, hinted at a possible shift in strategy for the upcoming transfer window. He conveyed openness to loan deals if they contribute to squad improvement.
“If a player can improve the squad, it is always welcome on a general basis,” he remarked. “Then, of course, you need to understand that loan deals are usually short-term. If there is a possibility of a buyout option or the possibility to extend, that is always something to consider.”
In a light-hearted remark, Cifuentes demonstrated his pragmatic approach, stating, “If Messi can come on loan to QPR, I would take it tomorrow.” This humorous comment underscored the coach’s awareness of the practicalities and challenges involved in the transfer market while also expressing a willingness to explore opportunities that could elevate the team’s performance.
