Deshaun Watson has reemerged at the Cleveland Browns’ facility after undergoing surgery and rehabilitation on the West Coast. The quarterback had been ruled out for the season on November 15 due to a displaced fracture to the glenoid in his right shoulder, for which he had surgery at the end of November. Following the procedure, Watson spent over a month in Los Angeles focusing on rehab, during which time he attended the Browns’ game against the Los Angeles Rams at SoFi Stadium but had limited contact with the team.
In Watson’s absence, the Browns managed a 3-2 record, with quarterback Joe Flacco stepping in and delivering impressive performances, throwing for 300 yards in each of the last two victories. Despite the challenges of being away from the game and his teammates, Watson expressed his ongoing support, acknowledging the inevitability of injuries in football. On December 23, he stated, “I’m just very supportive, and the guys got to keep rolling.”
Returning to Cleveland for his “Christmas Around the World” holiday party, Watson celebrated with local organizations he has collaborated with. Despite not traveling with the team for their Week 16 matchup in Houston, he plans to participate in practices the following week leading up to the Browns’ game against the New York Jets on Thursday Night Football.
Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski expressed excitement about Watson’s return to the building, noting the quarterback’s consistent support from Los Angeles and anticipating his physical presence back with the team.
Watson provided an update on his rehabilitation progress, affirming that he is on track and expected to be ready for the start of the next season. The Browns experienced considerable success with Watson as the starting quarterback, achieving a 5-1 record. In those games, Watson completed 61.4% of his passes for 1,115 yards, seven touchdowns, and four interceptions.
Looking ahead, the Browns, with a current record of 9-5, are in a favorable position to secure a playoff spot, and a win against the Texans would further solidify their chances. Quarterback Joe Flacco, while acknowledging the confidence within the team, emphasized the importance of staying focused on the present moment and the upcoming challenges.
As the Browns gear up for a critical matchup against the Texans, who will be starting backup quarterback Case Keenum, the return of Deshaun Watson to the team brings a renewed sense of optimism for both the remainder of the current season and the prospects of the upcoming one.
