Southampton hoping to sign a £29k-per-week 14-goal attacker in January…

Southampton, eyeing reinforcements for their squad in the upcoming January transfer window, have set their sights on a bold move for Amad Diallo, a winger from Manchester United. Football Insider reports that the Saints are actively pursuing a loan deal for the 14-goal attacker, who showcased his prowess during a successful spell with Sunderland in the previous season. Southampton has been a longstanding admirer of the Ivory Coast international, with ambitions to secure his services.

Amad Diallo, presently earning £29,000 per week at Manchester United, poses a potential financial challenge for Southampton in securing him on loan. The young winger had an impactful loan stint at Sunderland, where he emerged as the top goalscorer, netting 14 goals in 42 appearances under the management of Tony Mowbray. His impressive performances earned him accolades such as the Championship Fans’ Player of the Year and Sunderland’s Young Player of the Year for the 2022–23 season.

Despite his successful loan spell, Diallo encountered a setback with a knee injury during pre-season with Manchester United, sidelining him from action. However, the Ivorian has since recovered and resumed training, hinting at a possible return to the United squad in the coming weeks.

Earlier reports suggested Sunderland’s interest in bringing Diallo back to the Stadium of Light in January. However, sources disclosed in November that the player is inclined to stay at Old Trafford, determined to vie for a spot in Erik ten Hag’s first team.

Nevertheless, the final decision on Diallo’s future may rest with the club, as they assess whether another loan move would best serve his development and readiness for top-tier competition. Southampton’s pursuit of this talented winger reflects their ambition to strengthen the squad as they aim for promotion.
