Browns’ LB  28-year-old reveals Why is he excited to go back to Houston and what he hopes to’rewrite’ ahead of the showndown…

In anticipation of Sunday’s game against the Houston Texans, Cleveland Browns linebacker Sione Takitaki is eager to rewrite a chapter of his personal narrative that unfolded in Houston a year ago. At that time, Takitaki was in the midst of recovering from ACL surgery, a consequence of an injury sustained during the Browns’ clash with the Texans on December 4.

Fast forward to the present, and Takitaki has not only successfully navigated rehabilitation but has also secured a one-year contract extension. He defied expectations by returning ahead of schedule, making a notable comeback in the season opener against the Bengals.

As Week 16 approaches, the matchup against the Texans serves as a poignant reminder of Takitaki’s journey over the past year. Reflecting on his injury, he acknowledges the emotional resonance of returning to the same spot where the unfortunate incident occurred. Despite the initial emotional impact, Takitaki embraces the opportunity to rewrite the narrative and approach the game with excitement.

Last year’s injury transpired during a game where Takitaki was involved in punt coverage. In January, he expressed optimism about a timely return in October, approximately ten months post-surgery. Despite the setback, he had become a key player in the lineup. Takitaki’s dedication to rehabilitation was evident as he participated in individual drills during training camp and ultimately made a triumphant return against the Bengals.

Cleveland Browns linebacker Sione Takitaki warms up prior to the game against the Denver Broncos at Empower Field at Mile High.

While Takitaki has encountered minor setbacks, such as a hamstring issue sidelining him for one game, he has largely avoided significant injury hurdles. His contributions have been instrumental in the Browns’ impressive 9-5 record and their emergence as the top defense in the league under Jim Schwartz’s scheme. This season, he has accumulated 41 tackles, 2.0 sacks, two passes defensed, and one interception.

Acknowledging the challenges of recovery, Takitaki emphasizes the importance of maintaining a positive mindset. While he initially downplayed the impact of the injury, he acknowledges that the process was not without discomfort. However, he now feels a renewed sense of comfort and confidence in his physical condition, coinciding with a crucial juncture in the season as the Browns aim for an AFC Wild Card spot.

Expressing his current state, Takitaki notes that he is now truly feeling at his best, having overcome the initial discomfort associated with the injury.

As the Browns navigate various playoff-clinching scenarios, Takitaki is focused on approaching the Texans game with the same intensity as any other, adhering to the team’s philosophy of going 1-0 each week. If Takitaki’s narrative rewrite unfolds seamlessly, a playoff berth could serve as a compelling plot twist to this chapter of his football journey.
