Despite Liverpool losing out on Tyler Morton to Real Madrid in the summer, the club might soon have their own version of Jude Bellingham emerging from their ranks. Currently excelling on loan at Hull City, the 21-year-old midfielder, in an interview with the Liverpool ECHO, revealed that he aspires to mirror the versatility of Bellingham in his playing style.
Expressing his love for being a versatile player, Morton highlighted his desire to emulate the world’s best midfielders, citing Jude Bellingham as a prime example. The English international, currently plying his trade at Borussia Dortmund, is known for seamlessly transitioning between different midfield roles. Morton sees himself as a player who can be trusted in various positions for different reasons, aligning his aspirations with the multifaceted abilities displayed by Bellingham.
Morton explained, “I want to be someone who’s trusted in many positions for different reasons, and I feel like that’s the direction I’m heading.” Drawing inspiration from Bellingham, he emphasized his capability to control the game when playing in a deeper role (the ‘six’) and create opportunities when operating in a more advanced position (the ’10’). Morton expressed gratitude to Hull City’s coaching staff for providing him the freedom to showcase his attacking prowess, a facet of his game he didn’t fully reveal in the previous season.
The Liverpool academy graduate spoke about his childhood dream of emulating Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard, aiming to be a box-to-box midfielder capable of contributing on both ends of the pitch. While acknowledging the lofty aspirations, it’s emphasized that Morton understands the pressure associated with reaching the levels of Bellingham and Gerrard.
