Player signed from Southampton’s ‘closest thing to a flop’ club has -only managed more than 10 minutes once…

Nathan Tella is currently facing challenges in his transition from Southampton to Bayer Leverkusen, earning the unflattering title of Bayer Leverkusen’s ‘closest thing to a flop,’ as reported by RAN. The analysis delves into Leverkusen’s overall success, currently topping the Bundesliga table after an impressive run of 13 wins in 16 league games and remaining undefeated heading into the German winter break.

Leverkusen’s prosperous season is attributed to a strategic summer transfer window, where they invested €80.8 million to refresh the squad in alignment with Xabi Alonso’s plans. Among the new signings, Nathan Tella emerged as the costliest, acquired from Southampton for €23.3 million as a replacement for Moussa Diaby, who moved to Aston Villa.

However, Tella’s stint with Leverkusen has been far from ideal, earning the label of the team’s closest thing to a flop. In Bundesliga matches, he has only played for more than ten minutes once, during the opening game of the season when he managed 18 minutes against Darmstadt. While he has been a regular presence in the Europa League, Tella has failed to leave a lasting impression in those appearances.

RAN acknowledges the difficulty of the transition from English to German football, noting that Tella faces tough competition from quality players in his position, a challenge he seems unable to overcome.

Despite Tella’s struggles, Leverkusen remains unfazed, given the overall success of their other summer signings. The club sees room for improvement and considers the situation manageable, given their strong position. There is optimism that Tella might find his stride in the second half of the season, especially given Leverkusen’s stellar performance and the coaching prowess of Alonso in developing their forward players.

While the move from Southampton has yet to yield positive results, Leverkusen remains hopeful that Tella can prove himself in the coming months, acknowledging the potential for a turnaround in his fortunes.
