Richie Wellens breaks the silence on O’s Evolution and Challenges and makes a huge claim ahead of Wanderers’ Clash…

Leyton Orient manager Richie Wellens believes his team is gaining confidence but acknowledges that they are still a “work in progress” as they prepare for an upcoming clash with the Wanderers.

Currently positioned 14th in the table, Leyton Orient aims to build on the success of the previous season in League Two, where they secured the title. The team secured a thrilling 2-1 victory against Cheltenham in their recent outing, with goals from Shaq Forde and Ethan Galbraith in the dying moments of the game.

Speaking to the club’s YouTube channel, Wellens expressed the view that his team is evolving and gaining valuable experience at their current level. Despite the positive result, he highlighted the need for a couple more additions to the squad. Wellens expressed satisfaction with the outcome but also frustration, emphasizing that the team had a game plan that didn’t fully materialize.

Acknowledging the challenging nature of Cheltenham as a venue, he credited the opposition for their aggressiveness, noting that Oxford, Wigan, and Derby had also found it a difficult place to play. Wellens mentioned that the team struggled to find belief or rhythm in the second half due to poor decision-making. Despite this, he praised the impact of substitutes and commended the team’s resilience and fighting spirit.

Wellens noted that Leyton Orient have played better in recent weeks without reaping the rewards, highlighting the unpredictable nature of football. He expressed happiness for the supporters, stating that the positive result was long overdue.

Ethan Galbraith, a 22-year-old who came off the bench in the last game, made a significant impact. Wellens mentioned that Galbraith looked bright and provided insight into the team’s fitness, mentioning players who were affected by illness and injury but emphasizing the team’s ability to grow into games.

Looking ahead, former Bolton captain Darren Pratley may return to face the Wanderers. The 38-year-old midfielder, who has made 16 appearances in all competitions this season, could play a crucial role. The last meeting between the two teams in January 2021 saw the Wanderers emerge victorious with a 2-0 scoreline. Eoin Doyle and James Brophy’s own goal contributed to the win, marking the start of a 14-game unbeaten run for the Wanderers, leading to a remarkable promotion to the third tier.
