O’Neil Sets Sights on £7m “Superstar” to Enhance Wolves Attack, Potentially Replacing Kalajdzic

As Wolverhampton Wanderers approach the close of 2023 with challenging fixtures against Chelsea, Brentford, and Everton, manager Gary O’Neil is already contemplating moves in the upcoming January transfer window to fortify his squad. The rumor mill has been buzzing with speculations, particularly regarding the potential departure of striker Sasa Kalajdzic and the addition of Viktoria Plzen’s Rafiu Durosinmi.

Reports from the Telegraph in late November suggested Wolves’ interest in the 20-year-old Plzen striker, and a recent update maintains that O’Neil remains eager to bring Durosinmi to the Premier League, facing competition from Eintracht Frankfurt. The re

The Telegraph also suggests that the club is open to selling Sasa Kalajdzic, hinting at a possible replacement scenario with Durosinmi. Since Kalajdzic’s arrival at Molineux last summer, injuries have hindered his impact, and upon returning to full fitness, he has struggled to make a substantial impression. With just three starts and three goals in all competitions, Kalajdzic currently ranks low in the squad for goals and assists. His statistics place him sixth for goals and assists (two) in the top flight, eighth for shots on target per game (0.2), and 19th for successful dribbles per game (0.1).

In contrast, Durosinmi has been enjoying a prolific season, netting nine goals and providing six assists in 19 matches. The Nigerian striker leads the Plzen squad in both goals and assists (11), ranking third for shots on target per game (0.7) and second for successful dribbles per game (0.7). These impressive numbers suggest that Durosinmi could be a significant upgrade over Kalajdzic.

Kai Watson, a writer, hailed Durosinmi as a “potentially the next big Nigerian superstar,” underlining the youngster’s promising trajectory this season. O’Neil, aiming to shape a squad capable of challenging for a top-half spot in the Premier League, appears poised for a busy January transfer window with both incoming and outgoing player movements.

Kalajdzic’s struggles to meet expectations, coupled with his limited impact this season, position Durosinmi as a potential upgrade. The success of this transfer deal could be pivotal for Wolves, and O’Neil is urged to swiftly finalize the move to enhance the team’s attacking prowess.
