A Marvel movie could have been scripted with how many heroes showed up for the Texans in Sunday’s 19-16 overtime win at Tennessee.
Kicker Ka’imi Fairbairn would have demanded a leading role.
Fairbairn returned to the active roster last weekend after dealing with a quadriceps injury for more than a month and missing 5½ games. Had he not returned, it is unlikely the Texans would have won and likely their playoff hopes would have been all but shot.
Fairbairn drilled all four of his field goal attempts, including the game-winning 54-yarder as overtime expired to give Houston a desperately needed win in its march for an AFC playoff berth.
“Yeah, that was electric,” said Fairbairn, who is 22-for-23 on field goals this season, including 2-for-2 from 40-plus yards and 3-for-4 from 50-plus yards. “Yeah. Was a really fun environment. Let’s do that again.”
Do it again, huh.
The 8-6 Texans probably wouldn’t mind a blowout victory sometime soon, considering nine of their 14 games have been one-score affairs.
Fairbairn’s words, however, speak to his confidence. He’s always ready at a moment’s notice.
