Defensive Dynamo: Browns HC explains why the Browns Elevated 25-year-old LB to Active Roster Ahead of Week 15 Clash…

Following their triumph over the Jacksonville Jaguars last Sunday, the Cleveland Browns are actively reshaping their roster as they gear up for upcoming challenges. A notable addition to the active roster is defensive end Sam Kamara, a move confirmed by Jake Trotter on Twitter.

Sam Kamara has been associated with the Cleveland Browns since 2022, initially joining them as an undrafted free agent in 2021 after a stint with the Chicago Bears. Hailing from Stony Brook University in Stony Brook, New York, Kamara made history by becoming the first true freshman to start for the Seawolves in 2016. His standout performance during the 2018 junior year, amassing nine sacks and 42 tackles, earned him second-team All-Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) honors.

Despite facing an injury setback during his senior year in 2019 after being named team captain, Kamara was granted an injury waiver by the NCAA to extend his collegiate career into a fifth season due to the Covid-impacted schedule. In the subsequent spring season, he excelled as a starter, securing first-team All-CAA recognition with impressive statistics of a dozen tackles and two sacks in the limited three-game span.

Transitioning to the professional arena as an undrafted free agent with the Bears in 2021, Kamara adapted to a linebacker role and displayed versatility by shuttling between the practice squad and the active roster. Throughout eight games, he contributed 10 combined tackles, one tackle for a loss, and one pass defended. Released by Chicago in September 2022, Kamara found a home with the Browns on their practice squad.

Despite a brief appearance in one game last season, Kamara’s journey with the Browns persisted as he was waived and subsequently re-signed by the team in August. This recent promotion to the active roster underscores the Browns’ confidence in Kamara’s potential impact on the defensive front as they navigate the challenges of the upcoming weeks.
