The Philadelphia Flyers are exceeding expectations this season, currently holding the second position in the Metropolitan Division with a 15-10-2 record and 32 points. Despite their success, trade speculation surrounds defensemen Sean Walker and Nick Seeler. According to TSN’s Darren Dreger, Flyers management is open to trade discussions across various positions, aiming to strengthen their roster foundation. Dreger speculates that the experienced Walker (29) and Seeler (30), both set to become unrestricted free agents in July, could attract interest.
Walker, acquired in the off-season from the Los Angeles Kings, carries a $2.65-million cap hit, while Seeler, completing a two-year deal, has an average annual value of $775,000. The Athletic’s Shayna Goldman identified six potential suitors for Walker, with the Toronto Maple Leafs leading the list, followed by the New Jersey Devils, Dallas Stars, Winnipeg Jets, Colorado Avalanche, and Edmonton Oilers.
Dreger suggested that the Flyers might seek a first-round pick for Walker, but caution is advised as they are currently performing well. Elliotte Friedman revealed that at least one team inquired about dealing both Walker and Seeler together, emphasizing the Flyers’ reluctance to rush into decisions.
Toronto Maple Leafs GM Brad Treliving, previously pursuing other defensemen, may now turn attention to the more financially manageable option of Walker and Seeler, considering their affordability in terms of return and contracts for the cap-challenged Maple Leafs.
