DeMar DeRozan, currently excelling with the Chicago Bulls, has acknowledged a noticeable dip in his free throw shooting this season, expressing his dissatisfaction with the current state of his performance at the stripe. Despite maintaining an 80.3% success rate from the free-throw line, DeRozan considers this to be subpar, especially in comparison to his stellar record in previous seasons.
DeRozan’s free throw percentage has dropped significantly from the over 87% he achieved in his last two seasons with the Bulls. This season’s performance marks his lowest since his rookie year in 2009-10. The star swingman, recognizing the concerns surrounding his recent struggles, is determined to address this aspect of his game.
The Chicago Bulls player openly admits to the challenges he’s facing at the free-throw line and reveals that even his daughters have taken notice of his inconsistencies. DeRozan is candid about the pressure he feels from his family, stating, “Man, it’s terrible. Trust me. I hear it from my daughters every day. My daughters tell me every day, ‘Stop missing free throws. Why are you missing free throws? You told me you wasn’t going to miss free throws.’ The pressure is coming from them.”
Despite the slump, DeRozan remains optimistic about turning things around, emphasizing that the current struggle is just a temporary phase. He acknowledges a commitment to regaining his usual shooting efficiency and cites his pride in consistently shooting above 86% from the free-throw line over the last couple of years.
To address the issue, DeRozan plans to refocus on the basics of his free throw routine. He has adopted a daily practice routine where he shoots 100 free throws before leaving the gym, aiming to refine his technique and overcome the perfectionist mindset that might be contributing to the recent struggles. The determined player believes that this phase of suboptimal free throw shooting will be short-lived and is confident in his ability to return to his usual high standards.
